Leadership Team

Doug Bedient – Executive Director/Northern Conference League Director

Doug’s first exposure to NICA high school mountain bike racing happened back in 2011 when his oldest son, at that time a junior in high school, wanted to try some mountain biking with the local High School team in the Norcal League. Witnessing first hand the level of competition and high standard of race production, he encouraged his younger son who was ski racing in the Farwest league to take a break from alpine competition and get involved in mountain biking. After several years of coaching the Incline High team and seeing the positive impact it had on the kids and the families, he decided it was time for Nevada to get involved. In 2014 Doug successfully organized a bid to bring the NICA program to Nevada. Doug is a licensed NICA Head Coach and the Director of the Nevada League.

Dennis Leffler – Southern Conference League Director

Early on, Dennis wanted to teach his own children about mountain biking and how to enjoy an active lifestyle by riding bikes and getting outdoors. Through his own involvement in the bicycle industry, it was obvious that most parents had similar desires for their own children and simply needed an introduction into the sport.

Due to his own passions to get #morekidsonbikes, Dennis found NICA and decided to start a team beginning with his own three boys. He became a Level One Coach and started to recruit other team members in the Las Vegas Area. After forming the Vegas Rattlers MTB Team, and travelling during the season to participate in the Southern California League, he was able to experience firsthand, how NICA was expanding the mind and spirit of our youth. He watched kids work hard to become better riders and a positive influence on their teammates. He saw the excited and anxious look in the eyes of the kids as they lined up next to other riders before the start of the race. Witnessed each rider work hard to finish the race and saw the exhausted Rider with a big smile cross the finish line. With every kid talking about their personal experience, and proud of their individual accomplishment, it became clear that the Nevada League had to expand into the Las Vegas area.

During the season, Dennis became a NICA Certified Head Coach and started pursuing the expansion of the existing Nevada League into Southern Nevada. Working with Doug and other members at NICA the dream became a reality and the Southern Nevada Conference was created with our first Race Season starting in the Spring of 2019.
